Hi I'm Ghost Chicago Concert reviews
DMB on Fire!
One of the best performances! Missed Jeff however LeRoi adds a slightly different feel and perhaps a few different chops, which is good. His trumpet adds much to the overall sound. I would love to see Rashawn featured a bit more as he has lost so much weight. He looks much healthier and hardly recognized. Tim Reynolds is always amazing! A true show-stealer. Always loved Dave's electric guitar stylings however Tim's acoustic adds fire and edge. Great tone and feel..KILLER CHOPS! Understated at times and directly in your face at others. Always just right within the framework of the song without overpowering it. Boyd fiddle is just perfect for Dave's music. His fiddle is just perfect for Dave's music. A true show-stealer. So fun to watch and to listen to. Stefan and Carter are, without exception, the absolute best and most under-rated rythym section in the business today. The time signatures they create within the funk/rock/jazz/alt genres are just amazing.
The man is truly an original. A wonderful songwriter, a stellar musician, killer frontman and a generous and obvious loving leader of his organization. One always knows what to expect with Dave: Talent and emotion backed by stellar musicianship and the best audio/visual available. Very playful this evening with much stage bantar however not enough to distract. Dave? The best Dave show I have ever attended was the day LeRoi passed in 2008. A fitting tribute to a true master. The fire and emotion coming from the stage was not to be denied. EVERYONE who was in attendence that night at a sold out Staples Center knows what I am talking about and will never forget it. This show was DMB taking a victory lap for 20 years of musical and production excellence. Albeit to this writers shagrin, a well deserved break from touring is in order. I just hope its very short! I won't know what to do next summer without a DMB show to look foward to.
The sound, as always was phenomenal. Clear, crisp and loud. Just gets better as sound technologies continue to improve. The PA seems to get smaller every year and the sound gets better and better. Have not missed at summer since 2000 with a few years of multiple shows. Lighting and visual screens also improve every year but never overpower the band. DMB walks that fine line of all technologies augmenting the music and band as opposed to the fire, lazer beams and monstrosity stages other bands use to hide behind or under. Dave wants and gets his team out there, front and center with the latest technologies augmenting the music and players without distracting from either.
Yeah, I'm a DMB fan. Always will be. Hate to keep using the word but its the only one that really fits: AMAZING!!!! DMB is the best. No wonder they are most successful touring band of the first decade of the 21st century. They have earned it! A very evident in the way they performed. The OC, the only place to see a show like this is Verizon Wireless. Out under the stars with a 9/10ths full moon, late curfew, no residential neighbors to complain and a pretty nice facility. Parking sucks but you cant have everything right? At least Dave keeps it free, unlike the Hollywood Bowl and its 21 dollar stack parking.
